Thoughts and Feelings

i think i'm going to start writing again. i haven't in so long, but i want to challenge myself. i always come up with beautiful phrases, so i think i'll just start writing them down and either expand on them and make poetry, or incorporate them into stories. creative writing used to be my outlet, and i have been published, among other achievements in the field. i'm just tired of talking and sounding unintelligent. i am much more eloquent when i write and just generally make more of an effort to have style.

The Story of Sweet Animals

RE-MENT goodness!!!

So I started collecting these little dog figurines that dress up in costumes last fall. There is ten figurines, all about 3" big and they each come with a little, i guess the best word is dog house, though none of the items are dog houses as you would imagine them. for instance, there is a brown chihuahua figure dressed up as a bee and his dog house is a honey pot. The other figurines include a dog(not sure what kind) in a cow costume with a milk carton house, a corgy in a lion costume with a circus tent, a bulldog with an afro on a cloud, a beagle dressed as a ladybug with a log, a boston terrier in a baseball uniform and a baseball glove-couch thing, a wiener dog in a with costume with a jack-o-lantern, another corgy with a sleigh in a santa outfit, a schnauzer in a oni outfit with a Japanese treat, and a white scottie with a rocket ship in an astronaut outfit. i've collected all of them except for the holiday ones. i can't for the life of me find out what they're called, but there is hope.

Since my costume pups have become unavailable in the new year, i've started collecting sweet animals(pictured above). its by the same company, RE-MENT, and also has ten parts to the series. i've collected chapter 8 and chapter 2 so far. i will post all the chapters you can collect in another post. where the costume dogs appeal to my absurdly weird and funny side, sweet animals appeals to my foresty side. well i emailed the RE-MENT site and hopefully they will be able to shed some light on my mysterious costumes dog figurines.

and just in case you were curious to see what other mini figurines RE-MENT offers, heres a link to their site, all in English.

gothic lolita obsession

so lately I've been really getting into Lolita! I've always had a passion for anything Japanese, and i love to dress up is costume! i especially like shiroloi(or cute) Lolita because i get to bring out my cute and frilly side! There are many different kinds of Lolita but rather than post it here you can just wikipedia Lolita and it will tell you everything you need to know.

i have signed up for the Gothic and Lolita fashion swap on craftster(the link is http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=256693.0) and can't wait to start sewing up some super cute accessories and clothing items! i'm a bit nervous because I've never sewn any clothing before, but i have more experienced friends to help out if i need it, so I'm not too worried.

Jacob and i have been randomly buying the Gothic and Lolita Bible for years, but I'm super excited to announce that they now have an American version! which means not only are all the articles in English, but they interview both Japanese and American Lolita designers! its so nice to have a source of inspiration and new ideas, plus links to sites i can read! it is a must have for any Lolita! the American version of the GaLB has only just started, so they only have two volumes out. i have the second and have ordered the first, and pre-order the third.

i have also just commissioned a dress to be made for me by a fellow craftster. her craftster id is silversark and her website is http://www.silversark.com/ . generally I've found that American Lolita designers are charging just as much as their Japanese counterparts. while making Lolita wear is not the easiest thing in the world, with all do respect, these American designers are not well known name brands. in my opinion, someone charging as much for a dress that they made as a dress from Gucci doesn't make much sense. it also makes it very hard for the budget conscious Lolita to get very many pieces. thats where I'm totally in love with silversark right now! she does some really nice EGL (more of an elegant style of Lolita) clothing at really affordable prices! shes has some pieces pre-made for sale, but she seems to get the bulk of her work through commissions. i couldn't be happier in discovering her site!

even though I'm broke as all hell i really want to try my hand at making some hair accessories. Lolita is very similar to dressing up like a frilly doll, so hair bows and ribbons are a must! i really want to try making hair bow clips and little hats. maybe i'll scour my fabric and play around with some of it today.

You Are My Sunshine

the song titled you are my sunshine always makes me think of suicide. its totally a song someone would listen to before they killed themselves, or the song that would be playing in a movie when a mother first discovers her child has committed suicide. it just seems perfect for any of the scenarios relating to suicide, whether its a kid wishing his parents loved him or it playing pushing the kid over the edge. i dunno, I'm just morbid i guess. it just makes me sad to hear it.

The Begining

I've often kept journals of all the neat stuff I'd find and all the weird stories I was involved in, so it was only a matter of time before I got a blog. I suppose an introduction is in store. My id is Boolace because I love spooky things, but also cute and girly things as well. i thus dubbed my blog Haunted Toadstool because right now it describes my two major themes, spookiness and wilderness. By themes i mean what inspires and interests me. Well i guess the rest of it goes in the profile so i hope you enjoy reading and learn something new!
